On this page you can find all the important information about the MGK project. The MGK project is dedicated to the young researchers of the TRR360 giving them room for networking, training and to try out their own research ideas. General information
PhDs of the TRR360 must register for the IGS with the application form below. Only they are allowed to apply for a mini-project. Here they can apply for their own research fund to try out ideas they have on their own and have their own small research project. PIs of the TRR360 can also apply for a so-called Booster-grant to financially support an prospective PhD student unil their contract starts. This should prevent loosing a well-trained student due to a financial lack of a few months and facilitate the transition between two PhD students.
The project is guided by a MGK board that consists out of 4 young researchers and 4 experienced PIs. The current members of the MGK Board are Sebastian Schmid, Mahsa Zamani, Manuel Zahn and Johannes Weber (YRs) as well as Christian Pfleiderer, Johannes Knolle, Eva Benckiser and Felix Büttner (PIs). Additionally, 4 coordinators support them with the organisation. These can be contacted for any kind of question regarding the project. The coordinators are:
Dr. Lilian Prodan
Dr. Ina-Marie Pietsch

Applications
Application to the IGS
To become a member of the IGS (Integrierte Graduiertenschule) you have to be a PhD in the TRR360. For the application process you need to hand in the application form below including a small letter of motiation and your CV. Aditionally, you need to reach out to your supervisor and one other senior scientist to write a (very short and simple) letter of support for you. An example of such a letter of support can be found below as well. The documents should be send to coordinator Lilian Prodan (lilian.prodan@physik.uni-augsburg.de). Please make sure that you also ask someone to be your second mentor (aside from you supervisor) that meets with you once a year and send this information to Lilian Prodan as well. The second mentor should be someone inside the TRR360 and, if possible, should be located at another institution. The application will then be approved by the MGK board.
Application for a mini-project
As a member of the IGS you can apply for your own research project. Do you have an idea? Go ahead and fill out the application form to apply for your own research fund! Please send this form to Ina Pietsch (ina-marie.pietsch@physik.uni-augsburg.de). The MGK Board will decide if the mini-project fund is granted.
Application for a booster grant
You are a PI of the TRR360 and would like to finance your student between their graduation and the start of their PhD? Or you want to recruit someone to test their abilities for a PhD position? Then you can apply here for a booster grant. Please send this application to Ina Pietsch (ina-marie.pietsch@physik.uni-augsburg.de) and the MGK Board will approve the application.
Progress Report
All members of the IGS need to prepare a progress report once a year about their research. Additionally, a list of all attended lectures, seminars, conferences and other educational events should be written. This list and the progress report needs to be discussed at an annual meeting with the supervisor and the second mentor. At this meeting future plans regarding the research as well as regarding lectures/ seminars/ conferences and other trainings should be discussed. There is a prepared form to help with these meetings.
In the end of the meeting the form should be signed by the PhD student and both mentors and send together with the list of attended educational events and the progress report to lilian.prodan@physik.uni-augsburg.de.
